Venerable Fr John Sullivan to be beatified

Fr John Sullivan SJ 2
Venerable Fr John Sullivan SJ
Pope Francis has approved a miracle through the intercession of Fr John Sullivan, clearing the way for his imminent beatification. Fr Sullivan was a convert to Catholicism who was known for his humility, simplicity and charism of healing. He was a friend of Fr Doyle, admired his spirit, and they were ordained together.
This is great news for the Church in Ireland.

Pope: The danger of hypocrisy

Christians must look to their own sins and failings and not fall into the temptation of hypocrisy that causes them to believe they are better than others, Pope Francis said.
“The relationship of salvation” with God cannot move forward if people justify themselves and look at the mistakes of others instead of fixing their gaze on the Lord, he said at his weekly general audience today.

By Other Means

By Other Means

On the whole, [my father] spoke very little in public about his faith in God. Rather it was by other means, by the warm feeling of good will he seemed to radiate, by his profound and extraordinary appreciation of others, by the serenity of his bearing perhaps—in all these ways he transmitted a sense of the presence of God to others.

Books blog: Discover Mother Angelica’s genius in her straightforward meditations

Francis Phillips writes:

A book of the late nun's short meditations is perfect reflection of this down-to-earth holy woman
I have just been reading a small book, published by ETWN, entitledPraying with Mother Angelica. They are all short meditations on the Rosary, the Way of the Cross and other well-known prayers and were first published in the 1970s when Mother Angelica’s nuns started printing her devotional writings at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Alabama. Amazingly, they were soon producing over 25,000 copies of these pamphlets every day – rather reminiscent of St Maximilian Kolbe’s own publishing venture at his Franciscan monastery in Poland before the war. An apostolate blessed by the Holy Spirit will always flourish.

Peace

Peace

[Prophets of peace] have lived and proclaimed a path of non-violence. They have been able to do this because they received support and lived with a community of men and women of like minds and hearts. “When I despair,” said Mahatma Gandhi, “I remember that throughout history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they can seem invincible. But in the end they always fall. Think of it always…whenever you are in doubt that that is God’s way – the way the world is meant to be. Think of that and then try to do His way.”
